Culicchia & Li Calzi

Con il reading da 1984 di George Orwell, Giuseppe Culicchia – scrittore, saggista e traduttore italiano – si avvale della colonna sonora composta per l’occasione da Giorgio Li Calzi per proporre al pubblico un invito alla lettura (o alla rilettura) di un libro che, con il passare degli anni, è diventato paradossalmente sempre più attuale. Quello che al suo apparire nel 1948 era stato definito come un romanzo distopico ambientato nel futuro è oggi un’inquietante allegoria del nostro presente: e nella vicenda che vede al centro il protagonista Winston Smith non sono pochi gli elementi che ci fanno riflettere su quanto stiamo vivendo.

Giorgio Li Calzi, trombettista, produttore musicale e sperimentatore sonoro tra i più eclettici della scena contemporanea, ha collaborato con artisti internazionali come Wolfgang Flür (Kraftwerk), Arto Lindsay e Lenine. È promotore culturale (CHAMOISic e Torino Jazz Festival dal 2018 al 2022) e ideatore di progetti performativi innovativi, tra cui concerti per cani e umani sul palco, e per un pubblico extra-specie. Tra i suoi lavori più recenti figurano album come Italiani con Gian Luigi Carlone e Johnson Righeira, e Music for writers, prodotto dal Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino.

With the reading of 1984 by George Orwell, Giuseppe Culicchia — Italian writer, essayist, and translator — makes use of the soundtrack specially composed by Giorgio Li Calzi to offer the audience an invitation to read (or reread) a book that, as the years go by, has paradoxically become increasingly relevant. What was defined upon its release in 1948 as a dystopian novel set in the future is today a disturbing allegory of our present: and in the story centered on the protagonist Winston Smith, there are many elements that make us reflect on what we are currently experiencing.

Giorgio Li Calzi, trumpeter, music producer, and sound experimenter among the most eclectic on the contemporary scene, has collaborated with international artists such as Wolfgang Flür (Kraftwerk), Arto Lindsay, and Lenine. He is a cultural promoter (CHAMOISic and Torino Jazz Festival from 2018 to 2022) and creator of innovative performative projects, including concerts for dogs and humans on stage, and for an extra-species audience. Among his most recent works are albums like Italiani with Gian Luigi Carlone and Johnson Righeira, and Music for writers, produced by the Turin International Book Fair.
